Color Guard and Band to Perform at First Field Show
Band and Color Guard will perform their first field show of the year at the home football game against South El Monte Friday, Sept. 9.
The performers practiced on weekdays from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. over the summer and condensed training times to Tuesdays after school once the school year began.
“I’m sure our first show will be fantastic, and I hope this year’s performance will exceed expectations from last year’s while continuing to provide the same standard of quality and excellence Walnut Blue Thunder has always offered,” tenor saxophonist sophomore Ethan Lee said. “I feel slightly nervous, but confident because we have worked on improving our marching techniques, play style and most importantly our new field show.”
Band and Color Guard will also introduce their new theme, Heroes and Villains, with Band posing as heroes and Color Guard as villains. They will perform the first song of their set, “Heroes and Villains,” during the halftime show.
“Usually our shows have a happy theme and [are] full of smiles and positive energy, but this year, our show is very fierce, dark and intense. I think that the change of themes will be intriguing for the audience,” Color Guard senior Estela Teng said. “I’m really proud of our team, and I’m looking forward to all the hard work we’ve done over the summer to pay off tomorrow.”
