Color Guard and marching band perform in parent preview

Color Guard and marching band performed at “Waffles and Coffee,” a parent preview of future performances on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the field.

The performance introduced the theme for this year, “Shadows and Light”, and allowed parents of students in Color Guard and marching band to preview the teams’ progress. Color Guard and marching band showcased a one-minute, semi-formal performance together involving basic routines while complementary waffles and coffee were served to parents as they spectated.

“I hope our parents can see that their kids are truly learning and gaining new experience and doing something they love,” Color Guard member junior Scarlett Chen said. “Parents can see that all the time and effort they have put in for their kids to participate in band and Color Guard are worth it.”

Practices had been held throughout summer camp and on Tuesday nights from 5-9 p.m. since the school year began. Although the performance only previewed 2-3 minutes of the entire show, Color Guard and marching band have already learned half of it.

“[It was] enlightening because before this night, it never really hit me as to how much we truly got done,” clarinetist sophomore Ethan Ho said. “I feel as though this helped us realize how far we’ve come in the past weeks and how far we still have to go before the show is perfect.”
