Color Guard to perform in first competition of the season
Varsity and junior varsity Color Guard will perform in the Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC) Los Angeles/Ventura Invitational, its first competition of the season, at Glendora High School Saturday, March 4.
Both teams will be presenting their show pieces, with junior varsity performing “Somewhere Only We Know” by Lily Allen and varsity performing “One Last Night” by the Vaults. Practices have been ongoing in the morning at 7:30 a.m. as well as every Tuesday after school from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Rehearsals have begun to pick up pace as the competition nears and members have been running through the complete routine multiple times.
“I think [the competition] will go well, we have been practicing for a really long time now,” varsity flag captain senior Deandra Trujillo said. “We have our show finished, which a lot of other color guards don’t have this early on in the season so I’m hoping that we place for second or third.”
This school year, the team was dropped down to the WGASC Scholastic AA division from WGASC Scholastic AAA. It hopes to continue practices and place in future competitions in order to move back up to its previous division.
“I was kind of upset because last year we placed in the division we were in so it was like this year we weren’t good enough,” Trujillo said. “I’m hoping that after the competition tomorrow we will go back up to our original division.”
