Dance Team places first at its last regional competition
Dance Team competed in its last regional competition Saturday, March 2 at Glen A. Wilson High School.
To prepare, Dance held extra practices from 6-7 a.m. and extended its sixth-period practices by three hours for extra rehearsal time in the weeks leading up to the competition. Dancers also hosted team bondings, such as potlucks and sleepovers, to bolster their team chemistry.
“Honestly, I was just thinking about how this was our last regionals, and that it was a really big deal for us, especially for our seniors,” sophomore Brianna Chen said. “We all knew that we had to do our best to make it one of the regionals to remember. Before the performance began, we were comforting each other backstage and pushed each other to know that we could do it.”
Dance performed to “River Deep, Mountain High” by Celine Dion, “Fall For You” by Leela James, “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys, “Closure” by Hayley Warner and “It’s Quiet Uptown” by Kelly Clarkson. The team won seven first-place trophies and was awarded the Grand Champion award for being the highest scoring team of the day.
“I felt pretty relaxed dancing next to my teammates because of the trust and connection we had with each other. It allowed us to feel focused on what we were doing rather than feeling awkward next to people [we’re] not really familiar with,” junior Katherine Lee said. “Winning first was definitely a big accomplishment for us, and we were proud to know that our constant [refining] and practices were really paying off.”
