Dance continues tradition at Homecoming Assembly performance
Dance team performed at Homecoming Assembly Thursday, Oct. 6 in the gym.
The Homecoming Assembly performance had previously been an annual tradition for only the seniors of Dance team. This year, however, two juniors were chosen as well because of the shortage of seniors.
“I think that it’s a great honor and that it’s really fantastic since the Homecoming routine is usually reserved for seniors only. It was still an amazing experience, and I’m lucky that I get to do it both this year and next,” junior Britney Zhang said.
Dance performed to the song “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake. To correspond with the Octoberfest theme, the dancers were dressed in a fall getup.
“It’s the first and last time we get to perform for Homecoming, so of course we’re kind of sad that we won’t be able to this again next year. We’re all experienced and have performed many times, so I knew we were mentally prepared for this. We’ve rehearsed the dance quite a few times, and we didn’t have a problem executing the dance,” senior Katrina Lau said.
Unlike competition dances, the performance was choreographed by co-captain seniors Jasmine Fan and Caroline Peh. In preparation, the team practiced the casual jazz dance routine for about a month prior to the assembly.
“[We] felt proud and excited, and we think the audience liked the performance very much, and it felt so good knowing that we performed so well because of this being our last Homecoming Assembly,” Peh said. “I will miss this so much, since the other seniors and I won’t be able to do this next year.”
