Dance team performs at Homecoming assembly

Dance team seniors performed a Broadway jazz routine to a remix of the song “New York, New York” at the Homecoming assembly on Thursday, Sep. 24.

Seniors Vera Chu and captain Kristie Law choreographed the dance routine in two hours, and the performers made it presentable in one hour.

“We’re experienced at trying to work as quickly as possible and use our time efficiently, and we’re all experienced dancers,” Law said.

Unlike competition pieces, this dance was self-choreographed, so the performers could incorporate facial expressions, add their own styles and show their personalities.

“With the homecoming piece, we are given the freedom to choreograph and make the dance however we like,“ Law said. “We don’t have to focus so much on difficult moves, so it’s more of a fun piece.”
