Marching band and Color Guard to perform at Walnut Family Festival
Blue Thunder Marching Band and Color Guard will be performing at the Walnut Family Festival on Saturday, Oct. 7.
As part of preparation for the annual event, marching band performed at the Los Angeles County Fair on Sept. 21 and practiced daily in the morning. Drills included marching around the stadium track to straighten their lines and memorizing music to familiarize with the song “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire.
“[Walnut Family Festival is] important because it’s a way for everyone in the community to come together,” percussionist freshman Kayla Hao said. “My goal is [to] show the audience how great Walnut High’s marching band is.”
Color Guard has been rehearsing its parade block and routines. In the parade block, members hold up banners in the front, dancers are in the middle and the rest are holding flags in the back.
“I’m excited because [performing at the festival] is something we do every year, so it’s definitely a tradition,” Color Guard member senior Anna Wang said. “We want to perform the best we can because it’s in Walnut. You feel the community and everyone there cheering you on.”
