Marching Band performs at Chuck Wagon Barbecue
Blue Thunder Marching Band performed at the annual Chuck Wagon Barbecue Thursday, Aug. 22.
The Chuck Wagon Barbecue raised school spirit and promoted the annual Branding Iron game Friday, Aug. 23. Marching Band performed to parents, football players and teachers before the audience was served food. Members played pop songs such as “Firework” by Katy Perry and “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars.
“[The barbecue] was very casual and laid-back. [The Marching Band director] yelled song names, and we just prepared to play the songs. It was very in the moment,” drummer senior Hannah Davis said. “We tried to keep everything upbeat and fun, and [we tried to] keep the crowd moving. We’re trying to stay happy and trying to get everyone to join in and start clapping.”
Along with performing songs, trombone players performed the classic trombone suicide, a type of marching band choreography that involves trombonists spinning alternating horn positions while drum line performs. Marching Band also played a preview of a piece of the show, themed Alice in Wonderland, that they are working on.
“[The performance] was fun. We haven’t really performed yet as a band in public, so it was fun to see the crowd dance and enjoy the music,” drummer junior Amanda Ayerdis said. “I was just excited to play and be loud. There were a lot of people, and a lot of them were enjoying it, clapping their hands and moving their feet.”
