Preview: Advanced Jazz band to perform at Disney California Adventure
Advanced Jazz band will perform in the Community Arts Showcase on Friday, Jan. 12 at Disney California Adventure.
The 30-minute performance will include a variety of songs such as “Little Brown Jug” and “Pennsylvania 6-5000” by Glenn Miller, “Funk Tank” by Lars Halle, “Jive Samba” by Nat Adderley and “Tenor Madness” by Sonny Rollins.
“My favorite song would probably be ‘Funk Tank’. It’s very lively, it has really strong punches and a ‘funky’ feel as the name implies. I personally like the drums on that song. There’s a tricky part for the guitar, bass and piano that repeats at points throughout the song that’s catchy too,” bassist junior Alice Koo said.
This performance will be an opportunity for Advanced Jazz band to gauge their strengths and weaknesses under conditions similar to a concert. After the performance, band members will spend the rest of the day exploring the park and riding various attractions.
“Similar to every Disney performance, being in front of a large audience where people can pass by and stop for a bit is always pressuring. However, this pressure helps us and puts us into a performance mode so we play and sound better,” drummer senior Lauren Wonn said. “This [will] help us with [our] music skills and future concerts because we are put in an unfamiliar setting outside of our usual band room, and we learn to adapt to new places and stages.”
