Preview: Choirs to perform at “A Cappella Showcase”
Chamber Singers, Rhapsody in Blue and Men’s Ensemble will perform at the “A Cappella Showcase” from 6 – 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26 in the Multi-Purpose Room.
This showcase will fundraise money for Chamber’s upcoming spring tour to Carnegie Hall in New York. The choirs will be playing the a cappella pieces that they have been rehearsing since December.
“[The purpose of this event is] to reveal to parents, students or anyone else who comes to watch our show what the choir program is able to achieve. It may even inspire students to join in the future,” Men’s Ensemble senior Brandon Arca said. “This is our chance to show that we can have fun while making great music.”
Men’s Ensemble will be opening the show with the songs “The Longest Time” by Billy Joel and “Hello Mary Lou” by Gene Pitney. Student soloists will also perform, followed by Rhapsody in Blue singing “True Colors” by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. Chamber Singers will close the showcase by performing the songs “Try Everything” by Sia Furler, “Since U Been Gone” by Max Martin, “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri and “Light in the Hallway” by Pentatonix.
“I’m looking forward to performing in front of an audience again and doing a cappella because we don’t always do a cappella pieces. I love the feeling of being on stage and performing,” Chamber Singers senior Star Kang said. “Once there’s an audience there, it changes the mood and makes me want to portray the character even more to express the emotions in each song.”
