Preview: Marching band and Suzanne Middle School’s band to perform at football game

Blue Thunder Marching Band and Suzanne Middle School’s band will perform together at their annual show on Friday, Oct. 19 at the football field.

This event gives current band members a chance to meet incoming freshmen and to get acquainted through different card games.

“I like this event because we can bond with the middle schoolers. Most of them don’t really know what we do in marching band, so it is a good opportunity for them to get used to our program,” clarinetist senior Connie Cao said.

Marching band will be playing “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars, “Feel It Still” by Portugal The Man, “Firework” by Katy Perry and “I Got A Feeling” by The Black Eyed Pea . They will also be joining Suzanne Middle School’s band to play the fight song, the “Star Spangled Banner” and the pep tunes.

“We sent some of our music to the middle school, so they’ve been practicing our songs. On the day of, we are going to take them up to the stands and play those songs with them,” trumpet player senior Evan Miranda said.

Before the show starts, the middle school students will meet with the different sections (percussion, woodwinds, drumline, flutes, clarinets and brass) to figure out what section they want to play in when they are in high school.

“When I was in middle school, I remember performing at the high school as well,” synthesizer player sophomore Kayla Hao said. “I was really used to sitting down and playing my instrument, so it was really cool to see the high schoolers walk around and play. It was one of the factors that made me choose marching band.”
