FBLA wins sweepstakes for sixth consecutive year

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) placed first in the Inland Section Leadership Conference sweepstakes for the sixth year in a row at Los Osos High School on Saturday, Feb. 5.

Members competed in different events, with the top six competitors in each event qualifying for the State Leadership Conference in Ontario in April. The winner of the sweepstakes is determined by the school with the most points, which is based on the number and ranking of the competitors. Overall, Walnut placed first in nine events, and will be taking 62 people to state.

“I feel grateful to have made it to state because it is my first year in FBLA. I didn’t think I would make it to section, let alone state,” sophomore Laksh Kalra said. “I’m nervous [for state], but I’m also excited. I have to study a lot harder now for my event, but I think it’s going to be worth it.”
