HOSA attends SLC

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) cabinet and club members competed in their annual State Leadership Conference (SLC) in the Anaheim Convention Center Thursday, April 5 to Sunday, April 8.

On Thursday evening, club members headed to an orientation at the convention center where they were briefed of the rules and itinerary of the conference. They then competed in their respective events and participated in medical workshops the following two days.

“I thought [SLC] was a fun experience even if we didn’t make it to nationals, because all the workshops helped us learn more about the medical field,” club member junior Allen Chun said.  “The conference was ran very formally and everything seemed to be organized, which made things, like the orientation, interesting.”

During breaks between competitive events, club members were given an opportunity to listen to keynote speakers for medical career insight and network with students from clubs in other schools. HOSA advisers also hosted a hide-and-seek event at Downtown Disney for the purpose of promoting team bonding within the club.

“I thought this conference was a very eye-opening experience because I saw how many people have the same interests as me in the medical field, especially when one of the keynote speakers told her stories,” club member senior Liam Funk said. “By the time I got back [from the conference], I had made a lot of newer friends through networking.”
