Nutrition services continues to provide free meals
Free breakfast and lunch continue to be offered to students by the Walnut Valley Unified School District (WVUSD) Nutrition Services. The “Grab & Go” meals are available weekdays by drive-through or walk-up.
For elementary schools, the service hours are from 11:30 a.m.-1:10 p.m.. For middle and high schools, the service hours are from 7:30-9 a.m..
“I am glad that the government funds schools to [provide free meals for students],” sophomore Ria Santos said. “I was surprised by the portions they gave out [with the meals].”
WVUSD nutrition services staff wear masks and gloves as a safety precaution because of COVID-19 safety guidelines. Parents of students are allowed to pick up the meals without their student being present. Students from other districts are able to receive meals from WVUSD nutrition services as well.
“I think everyone should benefit [from the free meals] because we are all suffering through this pandemic together,” Santos said. “[The food] is better than regular take-out because it is healthier. The staff is bright and cheery and I am glad that they are.”
