Operation Smile hosts charity brunch “Save the Date”

Operation Smile is hosting its first charity brunch called “Save the Date” in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) on Saturday, March 7.

The club will be serving pancakes, fresh fruit, waffles, coffee, orange juice, bagels and cream cheese. The fee is $8 and all proceeds will be going directly to the Operation Smile organization which in return uses the money to pay for cleft-lip surgeries in countries like India, China and Vietnam.

“Jonathan Yang and I have been talking about hosting a breakfast event for Operation Smile for around 8-9 months now. We wanted to take an initiative and establish OpSmile as a club worth joining and participating in. The OpSmile Brunch gave an ample opportunity for both members and nonmembers to contribute to Operation Smile,” co-president junior Joy Cai said.

Guest speaker Jessica Shang from Ayala High School will be talking about her travels to third world countries and Operation Smile missions. There will also be a variety of performers from Walnut displaying their talents from singing to dancing to telling poetry.

“This event was created to not only fundraise to provide surgeries through Operation Smile, but also raise awareness about their cause. We wanted to educate people about what some children are experiencing throughout the world and also give them an opportunity to help,” fundraising co-chair junior Sean Aquino said.
