Open house 2019

Preview: School holds Open House on Thursday

Walnut High School’s variety of academics, athletics, arts and clubs will be showcased during Open House from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.

In previous years, Open House typically occurred in March but has since been moved up to January this year to teach prospective and current students more about the school’s pathways. In this way, those who are making decisions about enrollment and classes can receive insight and advice before finalizing their choices.

“[The administration team] thought it would be a great idea if we could get a head start on making things happen,” Assistant Principal Jennifer Tucker said. “Knowing that Walnut’s a great school, we [can show the community our] great programs.”

The booths at Open House will display information about academic pathways such as International Baccalaureate, Project Lead the Way and Academic Foundations. There will also be booths for clubs and athletics. Furthermore, those who attend open house can gain more input by talking to teachers and students in their classrooms.

“I think talking firsthand to the teachers and some of the current students is very helpful,” Tucker said. “They’re going to be able to ask personal questions or ask the teacher how much work there’s going to be or how many hours [they] have to put in. It’s [a] more one-on-one perspective.”
