ROP visits Mt. Sac for emergency services
Regional occupational program (ROP) students went on a field trip to Mount San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) Wednesday, Nov. 28 to learn more about emergency services in the area.
Students rotated between firefighting, emergency care and criminal investigation stations. They also received the opportunity to meet members of the fire, emergency medical services (EMS) and police departments.
“[I got to] see what kind of careers to go down. It was cool to see how the people [at Mt. SAC do] their jobs,” sophomore Sean Chen said. “You could see them demonstrating what you got to do if you wanted to [work in their field].”
During the field trip, the students learned how to put out a fire, dislodge objects from the trachea, employ the Heimlich maneuver and identify forgery. Mt. SAC also offered information on its emergency service training courses and discussed the benefits of each program.
“Even if you’re not going into the medical field, you still have the opportunity [to decide] whether you want be a part of this field,” senior Mia Delacirna said. “[The learning experience] kind of opens your eyes to what you can do.”
