ROP visits Museum of Psychiatry and Death

Regional Occupation Program students visited the Museum of Psychiatry and Death in Los Angeles Monday, Feb. 27.

The purpose of the field trip was to inform students of the history of medical practices and explain why traditional methods are no longer employed. Understanding the history of certain treatments supplements the Emergency Medical Technician training they receive in class such as conducting Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

“Going [to the museum] helped me realize how dangerous some medical procedures [once were] and how they differ from how the procedures are now,” freshman Kirsten Carlos said. “I felt lucky to know that I’m in a generation that has a lot of the latest technology and people who know what they’re doing.”
