Science Olympiad competes in regionals
Science Olympiad placed fourth in the Los Angeles County Regionals Saturday, Feb. 23 at Rio Hondo College.
The team competed against 50 schools in the area, medaling in the top six for 15 out of 23 events. Walnut improved in team placement and medal count compared to last year’s team, which was fifth out of 40 schools and in the top six for 11 events.
“I feel very proud because I did events that were completely different from last year, and I had to adapt myself to other fields that I’m not used to, like astronomy. Being able to accomplish this much in a shorter time, I have more confidence at [state competition],” secretary senior Olivia Zhou said.
Science Olympiad will advance to the Southern California State Science Olympiad Tournament at California Institute of Technology and Polytechnic School Saturday, April 6.
“I know from the past that other teams are really strong, so I’m not underestimating them,” member sophomore Kenneth Cher said. “State is another opportunity to show everyone the fruits of my labor. All the time spent studying or building will hopefully get us medals.”
