Student wins Association of California School Administrators speech contest

Senior Cynthia Lu participated in the Association of California School Administrators oratory contest held in Huntington Library and Gardens Wednesday, March 8.

Lu, representing Walnut Valley Unified School District, was among six winners chosen to receive a $500 scholarship and speak at the Region 15 Spring Awards Banquet on Friday, April 28. Lu spoke about influential teachers in her life and experiences as a mentor for Suzanne Middle School’s debate team.

“I thought that this was a topic that I related to a lot. I came across multiple speech opportunities through our debate club, but I only participated in this one because of how much the topic connected to me,” Lu said. “I really believe in the power and necessity of education and how influential our teachers are in our lives, and this was a topic I really wanted to speak about.”
