Virtual club fair recap
Club Fair was held through a series of Zoom calls from Tuesday, Sept. 22 to Saturday, Sept. 26. During these calls, 90 clubs explained in separate 10 minute calls what their club is to potential new members.
Every club was required to submit a slide which outlined club expectations and goals as well as provided the respective club president’s contact info to Associated Student Body (ASB) by Friday, Sept.11. Inter Club Council and ASB member junior Duvinie Wanniarachchi held a meeting Saturday, Sept. 19 to discuss with all the club presidents how the Club Fair would work.
“It was very different because it was a very new experience for all of us,” Wanniarachchi said. “There were some technical difficulties in the beginning, but thankfully we were able to figure everything out. I would say being online was a major shift for the presidents.”
A spreadsheet was made using Google Sheets, which included the schedule and Zoom links of the meetings. An ASB member supervised each Club Fair meeting in order for the meetings to stay on schedule.
“We had to move around original ideas and obviously [clubs] couldn’t offer candy or dress out in their spirit gear [like they usually do], but they did an amazing job with their presentations,” Wanniarachchi said. “My favorite part was probably watching all our hard work and plans pay off and see people show up to the Zoom meetings, despite everything being online and it being such a new way of interacting.”
