Jingles all the way: This Christmas

Country rock singers Matthew and Gunnar Nelson released a modern take on classical holiday music called “This Christmas”. The new album features old favorites such as “Jingle Bells” and “Joy to The World” as well as some original pieces of work.

The album starts with the hit single “This Christmas,” one of the album’s three original songs. Guest starring Alyssa Bonagura as the female vocalist, “This Christmas” stands out with its powerful drum beats and guitar riffs. While the song doesn’t have any lyrics that are exceptionally captivating, the singers collaborate well and produce graceful harmonies with catchy melodies.

“This Christmas” has an engaging blend of different tastes. Classic songs such as “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” are strictly instrumental, combining gentle bows of orchestral sounds with the country rock feel of the rest of the album. The pleasant chimes of the xylophone are just present enough to create that distinct holiday feel.

Fans of country music will especially appreciate this album. The light strumming of the acoustic guitar paired with the brothers’ subtle southern accents is reminiscent of modern country songs, except “This Christmas” features a touch of metal and a hint of holiday spirit. Though Matthew and Gunnar Nelson are still climbing up the charts, their latest Christmas album is undeniably a unique musical experience worth trying.
