Girls golf places in CIF individuals
Two individuals from varsity girls golf participated in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern California Regional Thursday, Nov. 14th at Brookside Golf Club.
Of 121 girls, freshman Kylie Lau carded at 85, placing 72th and sophomore Tiffany Le shot a 2-over and carded at 75, placing 10th. Le is the eighth out of nine girls to advance to the CIF State Championship.
“I was excited, but I was also nervous because I really wanted to move onto the next round. [Now] I’m excited to be back there and go against all the other girls from NorCal [Northern California],“ Lau said.
To prepare, the team regularly had meetings at Coach Cecil Woods’s house, receiving information, taking notes and practicing on Woods’s course for the upcoming competition. Because only two members qualified for CIF, they separately played a practice round and took their own notes to prepare.
“During my practice round, I felt pretty confident I was going to do well, but the day of CIF when I was warming up, I was kind of nervous because I really wanted to qualify for the state championship. I was just hoping my practice would pay off,” Le said.
The CIF State Championships will be held Tuesday, November 19 at Poppy Hills Golf Course.
