Preview: Varsity girls’ cross country advances to CIF section finals

Varsity girls’ cross country will go to CIF southern section finals at the Riverside Cross Country Course on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Both boys and girls’ varsity cross country teams competed at the league prelims on Friday, Nov. 11. The boys’ team placed 19th out of 20 and was not able to qualify for section finals. The girls’ team placed 5th with sophomores Chloe and Emma Arriaga taking the top two spots in the race, clocking times of 17:16 and 17:41, respectively. In preparation for the finals, the girls’ cross country team has been practicing to improve its stamina for Saturday’s race, and the members are confident they will succeed. The team will bond and relax with one another the night before the race.

“I honestly think our ladies have a good chance of going on this year. We’ve all been working hard coming up from Friday last week. This entire year, we have been giving it our all and trying to push each other, and I have pretty high expectations,” varsity captain senior Karina Galvan said.
