Preview: Varsity volleyball against Northview

For the first time, varsity volleyball will play against Northview on Thursday, Sept. 10 in its first home game.

During the offseason, the team lost its 6’1” middle blocker Lucy Zhao, who transferred to Bishop Amat over the summer. In addition, the Mustangs lost six seniors and added six first-year varsity players to the team. With the addition of the new players, the team has trained and has practiced different techniques. The last few days, the Mustangs have been practicing more defense over offense, working mainly on their block ups.

“We have potential but it takes both the heart and the mind to win, and our mental game isn’t quite there yet,” outside hitter senior Shirley Zhao said. “As a team, all 13 of us need to practice harder and put in the sweat whether it’s a game or practice. Our league teams improved this year and the competition will be harder for us.”
