Varsity track and field defeats Diamond Ranch

Varsity track and field beat Diamond Ranch 94-38 at its second away league meet Tuesday, Apr. 12.

“It was a hard race. I was just burning because I wasn’t used to the wind up there at Diamond Ranch. I just knew I had to finish and hit my goal of 5:10,” freshman Diego Serrano said.

Boys won against Diamond Ranch with seniors Osamah Hasan in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:02, Dominic Gonzales in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:40 and Emilio Triguero in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:30.

“Everybody started really fast, and it was very windy. It wasn’t the best race, but I actually was surprised that I beat half of the people who were there,” freshman Daniel Gonzales said. “Distance did its job and pulled up.”

Girls defeated Diamond Ranch with junior Alexis Brewery leading in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21, freshman Emma Arriaga in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:20 and senior Kaitlyn Fujii in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:29.

“Since it wasn’t as competitive as the other races we’ve done before, it was more about placing than getting a good time. Of course I tried to beat second place in the 1600 meter run, but I just got tired, and she was faster,” junior Erika Lopez said.

The next league meet against Los Altos is Thursday, Apr. 14 at home.
