Varsity boys soccer defeats West Covina

Varsity boys soccer defeated West Covina 5-0 in its first home league game Friday, Nov. 22.

In the first half, the Mustangs scored three goals against the Bulldogs. Forward senior Vicente Sandoval began the game by scoring the Mustangs’ first goal. Defensive midfielder junior Jasdeep Sandhu brought the ball from midfield and attacked all the way to the goal. With a third goal by right wing senior Micah Rickard, the Mustangs led in the first half.

“I felt good,” left back senior Roger Chaidez said. “We hustled a lot, and we’ve been training for a few weeks, so this was a really good start for our official season.”

During the second half, midfielder senior Ivan Ahmed led the offense by dribbling past the Bulldogs’ defense and scoring a fourth goal. Striker senior Ivan Jajera finished out the game by scoring the fifth goal and final goal, ending the game at 5-0.

“I felt very excited,” Rickard said. “We came in confident, and I believe that that was the key to our win.”
