Varsity boys water polo defeats West Covina
Varsity boys water polo defeated West Covina 25-3 in a home league game Wednesday, Oct. 17.
In the first quarter, Walnut scored its first point one minute into the game. Walnut additionally scored 17 more goals, with senior driver Kyle Green scoring five of them. West Covina scored no goals, ending the quarter 18-0.
“During and after the first quarter, I was really happy to see that we had a strong lead and that the game was going to go as planned,” junior driver Preston Patam said.
During the second quarter, the Mustangs scored seven goals, led by utility junior Jovian Peng, who scored four goals. West Covina attempted five shots, which were all saved by goalkeeper senior Bryson Huang, ending the quarter 25-0.
“I was really satisfied because throughout the second quarter we were able to keep a strong lead and also manage to keep West Covina’s score at zero,” Huang said.
Throughout the third and fourth quarters, West Covina responded with 3 goals to end the game 25-3.
“[This game] helped us make an improvement on our defensive technique,” Patam said. “Overall, I was satisfied with the outcome of the game because I think we were able to learn a lot.”
