Varsity Girls’ Golf Places Second at State

Varsity girls’ golf lost to Mira Costa High School 394-391 at the 2015 CIF State Golf Championships. The girls placed second out of six teams Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.

Junior Anabelle Chang led the team with 76, followed by senior Alison Chang, junior Keisha Lugito and sophomore Katherine Muzi each of whom shot 79s. Sophomore Trussy Li and freshman Abigail Wiranatha both finished with 81s. The wind and the cold forced the Mustangs to adapt to the unfamiliar conditions by playing more cautiously. With this year’s experience, the girls hope that they can win state next year.

“I wanted to finish strong and come home with a state championship, and it was very heart-breaking when we lost by only three strokes,” Alison said. “I think all the girls on our team weren’t satisfied with how we each played, but I’m proud of how much we accomplished this season. Knowing the girls, they’ll take our second place finish as motivation to work even harder for the championship next year.”
