If you’re a coward, you won’t be able to handle the heat. Located in Pomona, the Crimson Coward offers authentic Nashville hot chicken and signature foods. Walking into the restaurant, I was excited to try out the new fast food chain that would offer exciting spicy options.
The Crimson Coward offers a variety of spice levels for the orders. The options range from “country” with no spice, “mild” with a tinge of spice and “Crimson-hot” that is very spicy. For those wishing to try the highest heat level, there is an option for “BURRRRN, BABY, BURN.” I got mild on three chicken tenders and fries and it tasted crispy. The food was flavorful and the fries weren’t too salty. The chicken was cooked a bit too much and looked a bit burnt, but it was still delicious with an appealing flavor and was juicy.
I also tried their signature Crimson chicken sandwich, which is the most popular item from the restaurant. It had a boneless chicken breast topped with their special Crimson sauce, slaw, pickles and a homemade brioche bun. The sandwich was delicious, but it was a tad too greasy for me. I liked how the sandwich did not fall apart as I was eating it and had a balanced amount of toppings inside of it. I also got the Crimson sauce with my sandwich and fries. I would say it added some flavor and tasted similar to Raising Cane’s sauce. It had a smooth texture and a slightly sweet taste. The difference between the two was that the Crimson Coward sauce tasted more watery.
Another Crimson Coward signature was the waffles. They were crispy and were partially covered with powdered sugar and syrup. This was my favorite out of all the foods I tried here, and I strongly recommend it. It was sweet but tasted just right and was really delicious. There wasn’t too much of an overflowing amount of sweetness, and it was perfectly made. With your order, you receive a drink with the options for Pepsi, Starry, Dr. Pepper, iced tea, water, lemonade and fruit punch.
The restaurant’s interior is organized and clean, making it a friendly environment to dine in. There is also aesthetic lighting and a big menu in front of the restaurant that clearly displays the available food options. The staff were really friendly too, and for the most part, it was overall a great place to stop by.
