From the loud clatter of the kitchen to the delectable food, the recently opened Sunny Dumpling House serves customers an abundance of different dishes that everyone can enjoy.
Our meal started off with a plate filled with crispy green onion pancakes ($8), which were slices of deep fried and crunchy goodness. The dish seems very simple yet has a unique spin on the classic Chinese appetizer. Traditionally, the dish is served like a pizza, cut into triangle-like shapes; however, Sunny Dumpling House’s dish is displayed as a heap of fried dough. I would highly recommend this dish for a starter.
The main dish that I ordered was the shrimp and beef wonton soup. The wontons were tightly packed and full of meat. The outer skin of the wonton was soft and always had a satisfying bite with the soup. The soup consisted of bok choy and different types of onions and garlic. The warm dish had both sweet and savory flavors that complemented each other and made this my favorite dish.
Another dish we ordered was the Xiao Long Bao. The dish came out fast, and the buns had tender meat and soft skin. Although, the soup would almost always be leaking from the bun and the skin was dry most of the time. The table had vinegar, soy sauce and chili paste to compliment the buns. I enjoyed the meal, though I didn’t feel like it should be their “iconic dish.”
What came out next was the spicy peanut Dan Dan noodles. This dish is a mixture of creamy and spicy sauce with roasted peanuts and tender ground beef. This dish had an all around well balanced flavor to it, with the spicy and sweet mixed together well. The noodles were very well boiled and tender, but making the dish more saucy could be a good fix.
The restaurant just recently had its soft opening and has a lot of free food deals for returning customers. All the food came out quickly, but I don’t feel like their portion sizes are large enough to share a single dish for a large party. By the time I finished my entree, I was still hungry and wanting more. Overall, the restaurant gave off an inviting vibe, and the food was tasty and would leave my stomach always craving more. I would give Sunny Dumpling House a 4 out of 5 stars.
