From scrolling past the cookie review stories all over my Instagram feed to hearing all about the sweet treats around school, the resurgence in Crumbl Cookie’s popularity recently is notable.
Recognizable from its iconic pastel pink box, Crumbl Cookies has made a name for itself as one of the most popular cookie shops statewide. Unique from other cookie chain companies, Crumbl prides itself on having new weekly flavor lineups revealed on the Sunday before they come into stores.
When I ordered this week’s lineup, I entered the cookie paradise in the Crumbl location at 22438 Golden Springs Drive in Diamond Bar. They offer a self-order kiosk, making ordering quick and easy. During the week of Oct. 14-20, the cookie flavors were Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunk, Cookie Dough, Blueberry Muffin and Peanut Butter Crisp and Cornbread and the dessert was a brownie.
I was originally not much of a Crumbl fan because of their sweet cookies and reputation for being pricier than most places. However, since they added the mini sized cookies, it’s been a game changer when ordering. If you’re indecisive like me, it makes the process less overbearing than having to stick to just one flavor and also opens the opportunity to try more flavors on a smaller scale.
For the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunk, I was able to split it generously between my friend and me, typical of the regular Crumbl cookie sizes. The cookie really is nothing besides your average chocolate chip cookie, and although lightly sprinkled with sea salt, I found the flavor too salty. I would rate it a 6/10.
Cookie Dough is a flavor that people have been raving about all over social media, so when I first heard about its return, I knew I had to try it. I got the cookie as part of my mini 3-pack. The frosting faintly tastes like cookie dough and included cookie dough bites and mini chocolate chips. Although there could be more cookie dough flavor elements, the cookie overall was well executed and was pretty close to its inspiration. I would rate it a 8/10.
As someone who is not really a fan of blueberry, it was enticing to try the mini version of Blueberry Muffin. The texture reminds me more of a scone, but the cookie itself tastes of blueberry along with pieces of real fruit inside. It’s not too sweet but is a perfect mix between a muffin and cookie. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did, but I would give it an 8/10.
The last in my mini three-pack was the Cornbread flavor. Although it’s one of the more unique flavors on the menu for the week, I was intrigued by how Crumbl would incorporate the elements and flavors into the cookie. The texture of the cookie is almost a replica of actual cornbread, soft on the outside and crunchy inside because of its cornmeal contents. It was topped with buttery frosting and drizzled in honey, giving some authenticity to its inspiration. I wish it captured more of the cornbread taste, but it was not too sweet, and I think Crumbl did a pretty great job capturing the cornbread aspects in a cookie. I would rate it a 9.5/10.
Finally, I tried the brownie in this week’s lineup. I was a little skeptical at first, as I had never tried any of their desserts besides the cookies. The brownie is rich in chocolate flavor, and both the chocolate chips and frosting are not too overpowering but instead compliment the brownie. Unlike most of Crumbl’s cookies, brownies don’t usually have frosting, which I thought was a nice touch. The brownie is extremely generously portioned and can be split among at least four people. If you’re a chocolate fan, it is definitely worth a try. I would rate it an 8/10. Although I didn’t have the opportunity to try the Peanut Butter Crisp because I am allergic, judging by the arranged cookie boxes people were making in the Diamond Bar store, it is also a popular flavor.
After trying the flavor lineup, I can understand why Crumbl has regained its popularity as a more common dessert spot. Whether at parties, potlucks, friend hangouts or even those random cravings for a spontaneous sweet treat, Crumbl Cookies is unique for many occasions. With the revamp of more intriguing flavors and return of ones that previously experienced massive popularity and success, Crumbl Cookies is setting up to gain even more traction in the near future.
