After seeing TikTok mukbangers devour large pieces of crab leg meat, our staff and I went deep into the world of sea-food boil and came across Submarine Crab, a seafood restaurant located at 1241 S Diamond Bar Blvd, Diamond Bar.
We ordered Combo 2 which was $70 and can feed three people. It comes with two pounds of seafood plus a choice of their specialty seafood. We chose the shrimp, mussels and one pound of dungeness crab legs with the Torpedo sauce, which is made with garlic butter, classic cajun and lemon pepper, with mild spice. The shrimp was buttery and soft, pairing perfectly with the spicy and salty kick from the Torpedo sauce. Although you have to peel off the head and shell of the shrimp yourself, those came off effortlessly. The mussels were large as the meat inside was bigger than the size of my thumb which was tender and briny with the perfect texture. The crab was the star of the show. Many seafood boil restaurants are usually stingy with their acclaimed “one pound” crab leg portions, but Submarine Crab served us a generous amount of dungeness crab legs which I greatly appreciated. After cracking open the crab legs, we were able to pull out large, bright red pieces of crab meat. Dipping the fresh crab in the Torpedo Sauce and lemon pepper seasoning created a heavenly combo.
The restaurant ambiance lived up to its name, with portholes and submarine gidgets painted on the wall. When we were seated, we noticed that there were little drawers attached to the bottom of the table that acted as a dispenser for gloves and bibs, saving us from leaving with greasy hands. We found the board games in the back of the restaurant interesting and questioned when a customer would have time to play games when indulging in a hands-on meal. The restaurant also has a claw machine stationed in the back where you can earn plushies that may be traded in for free food, such as crab legs. To end off with a unique experience at the end of the meal, the servers brought us a misty flask which had soap bubble to the surface using dried ice. You swipe the soap from the top of the bottle and use it to wash your hands.
We definitely will be coming back to try the variety of items that we didn’t have the opportunity to try. The garlic noodles and clams were both items that caught my eye and look forward to trying the next time we visit. Overall, we rate Submarine Crab 5 out of 5 stars as we were impressed with both the fresh seafood and unique service. We recommend this to any seafood boil lover who can’t find a restaurant that lives up to their TikTok-level expectations.
