In the next few months, the Multi Purpose Room (MPR) will install new light blue curtains to brighten and freshen up the space.
Principal Dr. Michele Lew noticed that the current curtains in the MPR were becoming worn down and wanted to bring warmth to the environment. She purchased them with funds from the district and Community Club and will buy them through a Walnut Valley Unified School District-approved supplier. They plan on purchasing floor-to-ceiling curtains in our school’s signature light blue, ultimately costing around $3,000.
“I consider our MPR a community hub. There are a lot of things happening there, like housing our temporary library [while also having] a lot of clubs meet in [there too]. I’m really excited that anytime we can improve the facilities and the experience for you as students, parents, and our staff, that makes me really happy. I’m very excited to replace them, to just make [the MPR] an even better place, since it’s such a heart of our school,” Lew said.
The Community Club is a parent organization that raises funds and contributes to students’ needs. In the past, they have funded the Mustang Corral, purchased blue round lunch tables on campus for students and contributed to buying the new marquee board in front of the school.
After the request to replace the curtains was brought to the attention of parent co-president Veronica Rubalcava and parent treasurer Jennifer Do of the Community Club, they were able to utilize reserved funds for requests such as the new curtains in the MPR.
“Updating the stage area with new curtains will enhance the overall appearance, making it more vibrant and inviting. This improvement will help refresh the MPR and ensure it looks well maintained,” Rubalcava said.
With all of these improvements, Dr. Lew hopes that students will appreciate the addition and is looking forward to the installation of the curtains.
“Everybody’s influenced by their environment, and so [with] crisp, bright new curtains, I hope that students will feel even more pride in their school,” Lew said. “In the MPR specifically, [I want] just a really nice place to have their meetings and have their events.”
