Varsity baseball lost 3-2 in their home game against Claremont Tuesday, March 18.
Throughout the game, repeated balls and fouls loaded Claremont’s bases and gave them an advantage as they continued to hit. By the third inning, the score remained 0-0, as Walnut’s pitches remained inconsistent.
“I would say that our pitching was not as good as it’s been, and it put us in a lot of stressful situations throughout the entire game. But with all that being said, we still had opportunities to win, and we didn’t take advantage of those,” head coach Paul Acosta said.
As the game continued, Walnut’s defense maintained a stalemate, with shortstop junior Adam Lenero solidifying the middle and getting multiple outs. However, Claremont eventually broke through, and the game ended 3-2 to the Wolfpack.
“The game was a little disappointing because we’ve beaten Claremont in the past. We just didn’t play our best baseball,” Lenero said. “I don’t like to speak about myself as an individual, but I think I did pretty alright. I just tried to help the team win a little more.”
