Country music filled the air, and the hot sun hit my skin as I visited the Cal Poly Pomona Pumpkin Festival, located on 4102 S. University Dr. Pomona. While the pumpkin patch was entertaining, I was also mildly disappointed by the lackluster activities considering the expensive $20 entry fee that does not cover any of the other costs once inside.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in were the several corn husk remover machines. As I walked down the row of farming machines, I found a bracelet-making station that offered one custom bracelet for $10.
This bracelet station was definitely my favorite part of the pumpkin patch because it felt like the most personal activity. Although it was quite expensive, I enjoyed it the most compared to the other activities like looking for pumpkins.
Afterwards, I made my way to the actual pumpkin patch, which was just a field full of pumpkins in every shape and size, perfect for picking one to carve later. Next to it was a corn maze, but I decided to skip it since I wasn’t in the mood to get lost in the middle of corn.
My final stop was for food which included typical fair food items like hot dogs, soda and pizza. The smells were enticing, but I didn’t end up eating since it all felt pretty ordinary.
Overall, the pumpkin patch was fun, but I was disappointed. While it had its moments, I would not rush to go back next year because it felt very standard. But, if you are looking to buy a pumpkin, this is a place worth checking out. Keep in mind the pumpkin patch is only open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays until Oct. 26. Ω
