Varsity girls tennis lost 2-16 at home to Bonita on their senior night on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Given the team’s record this season, Bonita’s win was anticipated by the players on both teams. According to singles player freshman Adrianne Diep, Bonita’s playing style is very strategic and much more calculated than the style of any other team in the league. Diep played all three sets of the game and lost the matches that she played.
“I feel like I could’ve done better especially on my third game,” Diep said. “Towards the end of the game, it was a very neck-and-neck match but I feel like I lost energy. If I were to play again I would definitely try to play with more [energy].”
This game was meant to be sentimental for the seniors and focused on honoring their contributions to the tennis program through traditions like poster making and delivering speeches after the game.
“This season hasn’t been my favorite. I thought it was mediocre compared to other ones, so I’m just happy this season [is] over,” doubles player senior Chloe Wang said. “But I’m also sad because it hit me later on that this is my last year playing tennis.”
Doubles player captain senior Daniella Vargas also lost her game. Instead of focusing on the outcome of the game, she was soaking in the sentimental value of the night.
“I felt emotional because it [was] my last time playing on that court. I know I’ve made a lot of memories and made a lot of friends over the last four years, so saying goodbye to that was emotional,” Vargas said. Ω
