Varsity boys water polo falls to Chino Hills
Varsity boys water polo lost to Chino Hills 17-19 in its first preseason home game Tuesday, August 27.
Walnut lost three points within the opening two minutes, but focusing on the counterattack, the Mustangs followed with 11 goals in the first half led by driver sophomore Brandon Fabrega who scored four. Chino Hills scored six additional goals, ending the first half at 11-9.
“Most of the players on our team know the players [from Chino Hills] because we play club together,” utility senior Jovian Peng said. “I felt like there was a bit of a friendly rivalry and some bragging rights that came with the game.”
During the second half, the Mustangs made six goals with Peng scoring three. However the Huskies responded with ten goals, bringing the game to an end of 17-19.
“I feel like we could have done better [in defense] and should not have lost,” driver sophomore Jasper Huang said. “There are things we need to work and improve on [but] this [loss] will help us get better as a team.”
