Girls varsity volleyball falls to Diamond Bar 2-3 in an away game Tuesday, Sept. 25.
The Brahmas began the game by forcing a hitting error from the Mustangs. Diamond Bar soon took an early lead of 27-26. However, Walnut saved a set point and claimed the first set 29-27 off a line kill by outside hitter senior Caylin Caballero. Through killing the ball and playing energized defense, the Brahmas lead a revitalized effort to take the second set 25-17.
“It was stressful, but our offense was playing smart. We were pretty proud of ourselves,” setter senior Audrey Ruangutai said. “Our team started to fall apart in [the second set], and we could have made fewer errors.”
Although the Mustangs lost a crucial third set 20-25, they regained their confidence to win the fourth set 26-24 through striking consistency and momentum. The game concluded with Diamond Bar hitting an ace, sealing the nail-biting fifth set 15-13.
“In the fourth set, our energy was much better. We were playing as a team and for each other, rather than just for ourselves,” defensive specialist junior Elaine Zhu said. “The fifth set was really emotional, and we fought hard to come back.”
