As student opinion becomes more valuable, the students’ influence on the school has grown through the establishment of student organizations.
Student organizations like Student Think Tank, Associated Student Body (ASB), Peer Counseling and Publications give students an opportunity to share their perspectives and make a change at the school. The administrative office values students’ thoughts and strives to make changes accordingly, according to principal Dr. Michele Lew and Student Think Tank was established with this goal in mind.
Altogether, these student organizations work to aid students in every aspect of their lives. Peer Counseling looks after students’ mental health, ASB plans and coordinates student activities and Publications informs the student body.
Students also have a voice in the Walnut Valley Unified School District board office. For example, junior Ryan Harada acts as Walnut High School’s student advisory board representative in the city council, where he gives reports on the school’s status every month.
“One of the most important things that allows a school to continue to be successful is when all of the people that are involved in a school really partner and collaborate together,” Lew said. “When we all work together in order to make sure that all students feel supported and are learning the things they need to achieve their goals after high school, that is always the best thing for us.”
