College Board announced earlier this year that all 28 AP Exams are going digital in May 2025. Standard paper testing will be discontinued, and these exams will be moved to the Bluebook digital testing application.
Subjects that don’t require graphing or symbolic notation will be fully digital, and all multiple-choice and free-response questions are to be completed in Bluebook, according to College Board. Math, science and economics exams will be hybrid, involving both digital and on-paper portions. Students will complete multiple-choice questions on Bluebook and handwrite their free-response answers in the paper exam booklets after viewing their questions on Bluebook.
Bluebook is the testing application used by College Board for standardized tests like the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). College Board’s testing application is designed to make test-taking as convenient as possible with features that allow students to highlight and annotate exam questions, mark questions to revisit and eliminate answer choices. Reference materials, such as the periodic table, equation sheets and Java Quick Reference, will also be available in Bluebook.
The exams can be taken on a Mac and Windows device, iPad or district Chromebook. The school will provide every student with Chromebooks with Bluebook pre-installed on the day of the exam.
The school partners with Revolutionary Prep to support and prepare students for standardized tests.
“It’s all streamlined now. Everything is in Bluebook. Everything is just you just type it in the information. It’s gonna make it faster and more efficient on the day of the exam,” Instructional Dean Nelson Chen said.
