Girls varsity tennis lost to Fullerton 5-13 in a home game Tuesday, Sept. 13.

The Mustangs lost their first round matches 4-6, 1-6, 1-6, 4-6, 2-6 and 0-6. Junior Kassandra Uy and sophomores Annabel D’ Souza and Abigail D’ Souza all came close to winning their respective matches 4-6, with Annabel and Abigail playing together as doubles partners.

“I feel that we weren’t playing our hardest during our first matches. There were definitely some things that we could’ve done better before the game actually started too. Warmups weren’t looking too serious and during our games we should’ve stayed focused more,” Annabel D’ Souza said.

In the second round matches, Uy won her singles game 6-2 while Fullerton won the other five matches 2-6, 0-6, 5-7, 0-6 and 6-7.

“Even though I was the only one that won, I still encouraged my teammates as I watched from the sidelines,” Uy said. “At this point we already knew that we lost because we already lost 11 games out of 18 but we were still determined to make the most out of the remaining matches.”

In the final round of matches, the Mustangs won four of them 6-1, 6-1, 7-6 and 6-3. Fullerton won two of the six matches in the third round.

“I’m not sure what clicked in the final round of our matches but we all played extremely well,” Abigail D’ Souza said. “I’m very proud of all the girls. We just need to work on focusing when we need to.”
