Lov Ch Ch, a small cafe selling drinks, desserts and some savory items, opened up a new location in the Hong Kong Plaza 20747 Ste 8D Amar Road. Having visited their older location on 750 Ste A Nogales Street, I immediately noticed how different the new space felt. The original shop was small and cozy, but the seating was limited, so I often sat outside. Now, the shop’s spacious interior feels fresh and homey. They had flower vases on each table, which paired nicely with the burgundy booth and wooden tables. The service was really friendly, making the experience really enjoyable.
I ordered the Churro Fruitci Bowl ($9.70) which included eight miniature churros, each about six to seven inches long, with whipped cream, fresh strawberries and chocolate syrup drizzle. The churros were bite-sized, nothing like the giant ones you’d find at Costco, making it really easy to enjoy slowly. Fresh from the fryer, they were crisp on the outside and airy on the inside, offering the perfect balance of crunch and softness. I loved that the sugar coating wasn’t overly sweet, allowing the buttery flavor of the churros to come through. The strawberries tasted very fresh and its tartness paired perfectly with the sweetness of the whipped cream. I went to their previous location in Nogales a few years ago, and I can definitely say that the churros now are much crispier and addicting to eat.
I went after school, just in time for their golden hour deal from 3-5 p.m. on weekdays, where buying one item off the churro menu gets you another churro item for half price. Just newly opened, they did not have a lot of people there, but the wait was a little long because the churros were freshly cooked and fried then and there. Since I went with my mom, we decided to take advantage of the golden hour offer and ordered an extra dessert to bring home for my brothers. We chose the Churro Bites ($9.46) which consisted of 20 mini churros coated with sugar and cinnamon, served with either chocolate or dulce de leche—we went with the latter. These bites were noticeably crunchier than the churros from the Churro Fruitci Bowl, probably because they were much smaller. However, the combination with the dipping did lean on the sweet side. Personally, I thought that the Churro Bites had a heavier sugar coating and didn’t really need the dip but that might just come down to preference.
I was surprised to see that Lov Ch Ch also had savory items such as sandwiches and bagels on their menu. I originally thought they specialized only in desserts, so I visited after school and wasn’t looking for a full meal. However, I’d definitely come try their savory items on my next visit. They also have some drink items such as coffee or tea on their menu. Overall, Lov Ch Ch is a delightful spot for anyone craving something warm, sweet and satisfying. I’d rate it a 4/5.
