Through bright stage lights and late night rehearsals, students in the Advanced Drama program become more than castmates; they become family.
The close proximity of the Advanced Drama class allows students to easily form connections through their passion for the arts.
“There’s a smaller number of us, so we all become friends with everything that we do like workshopping, acting or improv,” junior Kartyr Lewis said. “Then, when doing a show, you’re spending hours every single day after school with them, so you end up forming really close bonds and it’s like a second family.”
During their last shows, every senior is given a speech in recognition of their contributions to the program over the years. Students are given the option to write and present a speech for a senior they have grown close to throughout their time in the program.
“I received three [senior speeches] after our show ‘The Plot, Like Gravy, Thickens’ and many more unofficial ones from underclassmen and those who I’ve been long [time] friends with now, especially some of our juniors,” senior Blaise Contryman said. “It does feel strange to finally be in the position to receive a senior speech, especially after having been a part of drama for all four years. It was really heartwarming.” Ω
