Ending “Zootopia 2” with “Zoo” by Shakira, gives me nostalgia of when the first “Zootopia” movie was released nine years ago on March 4, 2016, ending with “Try Everything” by Shakira. “Zootopia 2” was in theaters on Nov. 26, 2025, a long-awaited film since the first movie.
With themes of friendship and love, “Zootopia 2”(PG) is centered around Judy Hopps’ (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde’s (Jason Bateman) partnership and struggles. This movie expands on the prejudice from the animals based on stereotypes which was also expressed in the first movie.
Judy and Nick’s clashing perspectives result in conflicts in their friendship and partnership. Their problems start when they have overruled what the chief says and solve the mysterious case of a reptile who arrives in Zootopia to steal a historical journal that belonged to the Lynxley family, who are the main antagonists in this sequel. This leads to partnership doubts and leads them to uncover the conspiracy about the city’s origins and the historical exclusions of reptiles.
I highly enjoyed the movie because it was one of my favorite childhood movies, which gave a nostalgic feeling when I walked into the movie theater. There were some scenes, like seeing Flash the sloth or when Judy and Nick were walking with other characters reconnecting Reptile Ravine, that made it especially nostalgic. As a teenager looking back, “Zootopia 2” captured that same feeling that I had when I watched “Zootopia“.
The bonds with the new character additions such as Gary De’Snake (Ke Huy Quan) and Nibbles Maplestick (Fortune Feimster) added unexpected plot twists that I didn’t expect. Every scene of the movie was detailed with revealing the origins of the city and the issues of the partnerships that made it seem more engaging. Zootopia felt like a film that could connect generations, giving longtime fans nostalgia and new viewers a meaningful story.
“Zootopia 2” is an inspiring movie because it educates viewers on the power of stereotypes and how one assumption can lead to injustice for a whole species. When Judy Hopps says “Anyone can be anything,” this reflects that no matter what kind of background that you come from, everyone is encouraged to pursue any career they want. This message was really important to me because the movie showed that, in real life, there will always be problems in society, but how you choose to overcome them is up to you and your strengths.
There were similar scenes to the first “Zootopia” movie, which I enjoyed because it was attentive how the directors, Jared Bush and Byron Howard included every staple character in the first movie that made the new movie seem so nostalgic to people who have watched the first. The transitions between each scene were smooth and the little details were so observant toward the audience.
“Zootopia 2” is the sequel that is definitely worth watching because it was a fun, adventurous and thoughtful film. The movie reminded me of the Disney memories that I experienced when I was younger.
I loved watching Judy and Nick work out their partnership to make their bond much stronger and how they were able to save the reptile’s town by working together. I appreciated how all the characters were taken into account in both movies. Walking into the theater as a fan of Nick Wilde and his charm, I walked out with a picture of the cardboard cutout and a grin from ear to ear. I rate this movie 5 stars.
